Sawyer stumbles upon a dolphin that's been severely injured, becomes fascinated by dolphins, and is suddenly intellectually engaged like never before. In spite of his shyness, he forms a friendship with marine rescue doctor Clay (Harry Connick Jr.) and his daughter Hazel (Cozi Zuehlsdorff) and, more importantly, a special and very powerful bond with the rescued dolphin, who's dubbed Winter. As the newly formed team struggles to save Winter's life and ensure her continued safety, financial concerns, an accident that leaves Kyle crippled for life, and a hurricane all seem to join forces against them. In the end, it is Sawyer's determination, coupled with a little bit of luck and a lot of ingenuity from an army doctor (Morgan Freeman) who specializes in prosthetics, that helps make each member of the team, including Kyle and Winter, whole again. The talented cast does a great job of creating completely believable characters, but Gamble, Zuehlsdorff, Connick, Freeman, Stowell, and of course Winter, who plays herself, all deserve special mention. While the story of an injured animal rescued and rehabilitated has certainly been told before, this film is emotionally powerful and will absolutely captivate children and adults alike. Halloween is here, and with young kids in the house it can sometimes be a challenge to find something seasonal that we can all watch together. Without long continuing psychological ramifications, I mean. I belief The Blair Witch task The horror Before Christmas. Tim Burton The Corpse Bride and Coraline.

Monsters Vs. Aliens is a fun, computer-animated twist on the campy horror and sci-fi fare found on drive-in screens across the country throughout the '50s and into the '60s. Here the movie monster archetypes are the heroes of the film trying to ward off an alien invasion instead of scaring youthful coeds. The above mean script is executed by a deep talent pool of voice acting, with the four former characters, The Missing Link, Dr. Cockroach, B.O.B. (Not the rapper- it stands for Benzoate Ostylezene Bicarbonate) and Ginormica, being voiced by Will Arnett sharp Away a Halloween kind of movie. Maybe it's the witches, the discrete spirits, or the people turning into pigs. Or it could be the masked ghost thingy that eats people, which as it turns out, is unmistakably not as scary as it sounds. Anything it is, there's no denying that legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki sharp Away, as well as Howl's sharp Castle, Ponyo, and most every other Studio Ghibli Peter Pan Alice In Wonderland, or The Wizard of Oz; A quality that reminds me of childhood adventure and wide-eyed wonder in a place where Anything can happen.

Sure, the quintessential coming of age adventure doesn't feature an ax wielding maniac, but it does have pirates (dead ones if that's scarier for you), a piano made out of bones, and a misunderstood monster addicted to Baby Ruths. And while it may not have a lot of jump out of your seat moments, I think that we can all agree that the Truffle Shuffle Ghostbusters. I was worried it might be a small intense for him the first time we watched it together (he's only recently turned five), but it fast became a staple in his viewing requests. So much so in fact, that I bought a copy of the first season of the sharp show The Real Ghostbusters. As it turns out, he found the cartoon to be far scarier than the former 1984 classic. Same was true about the 1989 sequel, Ghostbusters Ii Gremlins, someone else well known 1984 comedy/horror movie, is one that I do want to share with the kids eventually. I say eventually, because I was seven when I begged my parents to let me see that movie in theaters, and when they finally relented I chickened out about halfway through. Those small green dudes with their snake-like eyes unmistakably gave me the heebie-jeebies at the time. As a father, I do feel a sense of duty to impress upon my kids a respect for the classics, but I think that one will have to wait.

Another example of something I'd like my kids to like is It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. I may have played the card a small early however, as neither my son nor my two-year-old daughter had the desire to sit through the entire film. The dialogue-heavy Peanuts cartoons aren't unmistakably what one would call performance packed, and at this stage in the game where my son's favorite performance is building things out of blocks for the sole purpose of destroying them, and my daughter's favorite performance is hitting her brother, neither unmistakably has the patience for the understated genius that is Snoopy. We've only made it two-thirds of the way through the movie.

Can anything keep Captain Jack Sparrow down? Well, as long as Johnny Depp plays the offbeat pirate of the high seas, as he does in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the answer is "Not bloody likely, mate!" This fourth installment of the Pirates franchise is jolly good fun--nearly as good as the first one, in fact. The writing is crisp, the action amazing--and there's the addition of a foe finally the match of Captain Jack: Ian McShane as the dreaded, and dreadful, Blackbeard. McShane seems to be having as much fun as Depp, and that's saying something--channeling his dastardly character on Deadwood but keeping his epithets rated PG-13. Adding to the festivities is the winsome Penélope Cruz, as Angelica, a woman with a past entwined with Jack Sparrow's. Angelica now might be a fearsome pirate herself--or maybe just a cunning con artist tugging at Sparrow's heartstrings.

The action in On Stranger Tides centers on the quest to find the legendary Fountain of Youth in the Americas. But the plot, of course, is incidental in the Pirates films. From the earliest scenes, it's clear the action, and Depp's winking at the camera, are the stars. Captain Jack stages a giant food fight in front of the King of England, culminating in a chandelier scene worthy of The Phantom of the Opera, and he's off at a gallop. Along for the ride are previous cast members Geoffrey Rush (who's sold out and is now an unctuous representative of His Majesty's Navy); loyal sidekick Kevin McNally, who narrowly escapes a death sentence, and then celebrates by leaping on board Captain Jack's fraught mission; and Keith Richards as Jacky's dad, who speaks few words, but wise ones. There are even zombie pirates, and a mysterious mermaid. Pirates of the Caribbean isn't suitable for viewers under 8 or so, because it's dark and intense in spots, but otherwise, it's a rollicking good popcorn film. --A.T. Hurley

If you like your humor broadside up, hold the subtlety, you'll want to nurse this Hangover with your best buds. The ensemble cast meshes perfectly--it's like a super-R-rated episode of Friends: silly, slapstick, and completely in the viewer's face. When four pals go to Vegas to celebrate the imminent nuptials of one of them, they partake in a rooftop toast to "a night we'll never forget." But they're in for a big surprise: their celebration drinks were laced with date-rape drugs, so when they awake in their hotel room 12 hours later, not only are they hung over, but they can't remember what they did all night long. Oh, and they're missing the groom-to-be.

The film is so cheerfully raunchy, so fiercely crude, that the humor becomes as intoxicating as the mind-altering substances. The standout in the ensemble is Zach Galifianakis, who is alternately creepy and hilarious. Ed Helm (The Office), in addition to his memory, loses a tooth in uncomfortably realistic fashion, and Bradley Cooper (He's Just Not That into You) has deadpan comic timing that whips along at the speed of light. "Ma'am, you have an incredible rack," he blares to a pedestrian from the squad car the guys have "borrowed." "I should have been a [bleeping] cop," he tells himself approvingly.

Director Todd Phillips brings back his deft handling of the actors and the dude humor that worked so well in Old School, as well as the unctuous Dan Finnerty, memorable as a lounge/wedding singer in both films. But it's the nonstop volley of jokes--most cheerily politically incorrect--that grabs the audience and thrashes it around the hotel room. Just watch out for the tiger in the bathroom. --A.T. Hurley

So why has the term lesbian movie come to be approximately synonymous with the adult movie industry? well a lesbian movie is a movie about lesbian women and our lifestyle just like an Indian movie is about Indians and their lifestyle.

The problem well may be partially contributed to by the gaping lack of good movies for lesbians in circulation. The forums are buzzing, the blogs updated and lesbians everywhere rush to the tv show in a hope for more. And like a dangled carrot, the lesbian story is killed and there is a return to waiting for the next lesbian subplot in any show or film. One other fabulous Pesci film that is worthy of seminar is The Good Shepherd. For one reckon or another, this movie never got the considerable acclaim it deserved. Maybe it was because it was released on a smaller scale, but I easily enjoyed this movie.

Hopefully there is at least one movie on this epic list of Joe Pesci films that you have yet to see.

Annie (Wiig) isn't doing so well; her bakery failed and she keeps sleeping with a good-looking louse (Jon Hamm, Mad Men), but she's always had her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph, Away We Go) to buoy her up… until Lillian gets engaged. Annie becomes maid of honor, but another friend of Lillian's--the rich and lovely Helen (Rose Byrne, Get Him to the Greek)--wants to take over that position. Misadventures with bad Brazilian food, dress fittings, an unfortunate flight to Vegas, and a sympathetic traffic cop (Chris O'Dowd from British TV comedy The IT Crowd) follow, with increasingly hilarious results. Bridesmaids successfully balances raunchy comedy and character portrait. The embarrassing and socially catastrophic stuff, which in too many movies balloons into absurdity, is here kept in check just enough to allow Annie and the other characters to be multidimensional people--without the movie losing its comic capacity for cringe. When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, they tumble from their magical world and into ours -- in fact, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. Once in a blue moon, one gets a glimpse of what's truly important in life--and it's not always what one might expect. In the hidden land of the Smurfs, the perpetually happy blue creatures are preparing for the Blue Moon festival. They have no clue that the evil wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria) is about to follow one of them into their secret world in an attempt to capture their happy essence--a substance guaranteed to render his magic all-powerful. In a striking parallel to Enchanted, a vortex suddenly opens up and sucks Papa, Grouchy, Smurfette, Brainy, Gutsy, and Clumsy Smurf into the middle of New York City, with Gargamel following close behind. Shocked expectant parents Patrick and Grace Winslow (Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays) end up with an apartment full of the little blue beings. They eventually befriend the Smurfs and agree to help them outsmart Gargamel and find their way back home. What ensues is a danger-filled, comical adventure that takes the Smurfs from Central Park to Patrick's place of employment and even FAO Schwarz. Just when it looks like their plan to return home will fail, and that they've destroyed Patrick's career in the process, things really heat up and everyone learns a lesson about what's really important in life and about believing in oneself. The film does a good job melding live action and animation, and there's plenty of humor involved for both kids and adults. Most kids will laugh their way through the film, but there are some situations of peril that the very youngest or easily frightened might find rather intense. Harris and Mays do a good job interacting with their new blue friends, but it's too bad these talented actors weren't given a bit more depth of character to work with. Azaria is quite an effective villain and Frank Welker's cat Azrael is hysterical. Other notable voice talent includes Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf, Alan Cumming as Gutsy, Katy Perry as Smurfette, Fred Armisen as Brainy, George Lopez as Grouchy, and Anton Yelchin as Clumsy. The Smurfs is funny enough family entertainment, but given its star-studded cast, it had the potential to be even better. (Ages 7 and older) --Tami Horiuchi
